Kris Dillon—Midwife (CPM, RM)

Kris Dillon is a certified professional midwife (CPM) and a registered midwife (RM). Her midwifery path began almost 30 years ago when she had midwives and home births for her own babies. Her midwifery dreams were placed on hold when she became a single parent. While raising her children, Kris put herself through school, where she earned a degree in counseling. Many of her classes included sociology, nutrition and fitness – all subjects that become great tools for a midwife.

Kris has been attending births and providing postpartum support to families for the last decade. Seven years ago Kris began working as an office manager for a local midwife. Soon she was sitting in on prenatal appointments, then helping with them and ultimately conducting some.

Kris’ formal midwifery training began concurrently with the birth of the Midwifery School of the Rockies, run by Jeni Schraishuhn – a home birth midwife whose career spans 34 years and 1200 births.

In addition to her background in psychology, sociology, fitness and nutrition, Kris is current in adult, child and infant CPR and Phlebotomy.

Not every woman is comfortable with a home birth. Some families cannot imagine birthing outside a hospital setting. Kris works with those women and their families to create the birth of their dreams and the perfect welcome for their new baby. She will help the family develop a birth plan, then join them in labor to help them realize that plan.

At the hospital Kris becomes a labor coach and birth advocate - supporting families as they make critical decisions throughout the birth process. She stays with the family through the birth and the hours immediately following to provide help with bonding and breastfeeding.

After the family returns home Kris will come by to make sure that everyone is settled into their new roles and routines as a family. This is when she will review the birth with the family, answer any questions they have about the experience, and make sure that they have adequate support for the next chapter of their lives!
