Postpartum Doula

Most people have family, friends and other support people come and help them out when a new baby arrives. This may not work for you or your current situation. You may not have family nearby, or you may be new to the area. You may not WANT your mother or mother-in-law giving their opinions about how you are choosing to parent. You may LOVE your family, but you want to be the one holding your baby and not have to ask for your own child.

As your postpartum doula we will come help organize the support you need. We may set up a "dinner tree" – people who can drop by a meal but not stay too long. Or we can help you prenatally prepare meals that you can freeze now and enjoy later. We can coordinate a laundry crew, dog walking, or play dates for older children. If you don't have a community of people to organize, the postpartum doula will be the one doing these things for you. We will also be able to assist you with breastfeeding support, shopping, or just keeping an eye on the baby so you can take a shower.

We meet with you before the birth to establish the postpartum schedule of care. Then we will implement the plan after the baby is born. Each person has a different level of need, so the amount of time contracted will be negotiated on an individualized basis.
